Constitution

ARTICLE I

Name

The name of this organization shall be the Western Kentucky University College Republicans (hereafter referred to as "the Club").

ARTICLE II

Purpose

SECTION 1. To make known and promote the principles of the Republican Party among the students at Western Kentucky University.
SECTION 2. To recruit WKU students as members of the Club and as members of the Republican Party.
SECTION 3. To aid in the election of Republican candidates to all levels of government.
SECTION 4. To develop political skills and leadership abilities among Republican students as preparation for future service by them to the party and the community.

ARTICLE III


Officers


SECTION 1. The officers of the Club shall be a President, First Vice-President, Second Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
SECTION 2. The officers shall be elected at a regular Club meeting between March 1 and April 30 and shall take the office immediately upon election.
SECTION 3. Notice that the election of Club officers will occur at the regular meeting must be reasonably provided to all Club members not less than two weeks prior to such meeting.
SECTION 4. Nominations of candidates for Club officer positions shall be made from the floor by any Club member in good standing.
SECTION 5. Candidates must be a Club member in good standing.
SECTION 6-A Officers shall be elected by a majority of those Club members present and voting who shall have paid their annual dues not less than two weeks prior to the election meeting.
SECTION 6-B. Officer elections shall be by secret ballot, and the ballots shall be counted by the faculty advisor.
SECTION 7. Vacancies occurring among the officers shall be filled at the next regular meeting after such vacancy occurs, provided however that upon a vacancy in the position of President, the First Vice-President shall become President.
SECTION 8. The duties of the officers shall be as follows:
1. President To preside over all meetings of the Club and all meetings of the Club officers; to administer the club program; to represent the Club in an official capacity.
2. First Vice-President To preside in the absence of the President; to coordinate administrative activities; to perform such other tasks as the President may assign.
3. Second Vice-President To preside in the absence of the President and the First Vice-President; to coordinate public relations; to perform such other tasks as the President may assign.
4. Secretary To prepare minutes of all regular Club meetings; to send all official Club correspondence; to perform such other tasks as the President may assign.
5. Treasurer To make financial reports at all regular Club meetings; to receive and distribute Club funds upon authorization by the President; to coordinate fund raising activities; to perform such other tasks the President may assign.
SECTION 9. Officers shall not miss more than three regular meetings per semester.

ARTICLE IV


Appointive Positions

The President shall appoint, with the consent of a majority of the officers, such project directors, committee chairmen, committees, and dormitory, fraternity, sorority and commuter coordinators as may contribute to the successful operation of the Club.
SECTION 1. The Club shall hold regular meetings not less than once monthly while school is in session.
SECTION 2. Regular meetings may be held at the call of the President or of any three Club officers. Notice of a regular meeting shall be give to all Club members in the most complete manner practicable not less than one week prior to the meeting.
SECTION 3. A quorum for regular meetings shall be ten (10) members.

ARTICLE VI


Dues


Each member shall pay $5.00 dues per year and shall not be entitled to vote at Club meetings until his dues shall have been paid in full. Only paid members shall be allowed to nominate candidates or be themselves candidates for a Club officer.

ARTICLE VII

Recruitment

SECTION 1. A membership/information table shall be run as early in each semester as is practicable.
SECTION 2. The first regular meeting shall be held not more than three days after the membership table is run.

ARTICLE VIII


Impeachment

Any officer may be impeached for unwillingness, or inability to perform his prescribed duties properly and in good faith. Upon a unanimous vote of the other officers at a regular meeting, an officer shall be removed from his position. With the exception of the office of President, the position shall remain vacant until the next regular meeting when an election to fill the vacancy shall be held. The office of President shall be filled pursuant to Article III, Section 7. The removed officer may seek election to fill the vacancy, as may any other club member in good standing.

ARTICLE IX


Amendments

Amendments to this Constitution may be adopted upon an affirmative vote by two-thirds (2/3) of those present and voting at two successive regular Club meetings, provided however that no such amendments shall take effect without the approval of at least three Club officers.
