Admission and Enrollment
Bowling Green Community College
(BGCC) has an “Open Enrollment” policy. Students who have a high school diploma
or a GED are eligible to attend the college. High school grade point average
and ACT or SAT test scores do not determine admission. To receive a copy of the
application for admission, please call (270) 780-2550, or visit the Preston
Student Success Center at Bowling Green Community College, 2355 Nashville Road
Suite B, Bowling Green, KY. An application is also available online at www.wku.edu.
In order to be admitted to the
Community College initially, a student must submit the following items to the
WKU Office of Admissions:
- Application for admission
- Non-refundable application fee
- Official copy of ACT or SAT scores (if available)
- Official high school, college and/or GED records
- ACT or ACCUPLACER Examination
Students who are entering as
freshmen and who are under 21 years of age are required to provide American
College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores to the WKU Office
of Admissions before the end of their first semester of enrollment. It is the
student’s responsibility to have the test results sent directly to Western
Kentucky University from the National Testing Center. ACCUPLACER computerized
placement scores may be substituted for the ACT if the student is 21 years of
age or older. ACCUPLACER testing is available on the Bowling Green Community
College campus and is offered free of charge to admitted students. Additional
information about the ACT or ACCUPLACER is available in the Community College
Enrollment Services Office, (270) 780-2550.
Academic Records
Those applying for admission to
Bowling Green Community College of Western Kentucky University must see that an
official transcript of high school grades or GED scores are made available to
the WKU Office of Admissions.
Those who have attended another
college or university must request that the Registrar at each college or
university attended forward one official transcript directly to the WKU Office
of Admissions. NOTE: The WKU Office of Admissions will obtain the WKU
transcript if the student has previously attended Western Kentucky University.
Pre-College Curriculum
Students enrolling in Bowling
Green Community College will be evaluated to determine if all Pre-College
Curriculum Requirements (PCC) have been met. If the student has not completed
the PCC, the student must either demonstrate proficiency on subject area tests
or complete specified courses to make up their deficiencies before earning 24
semester hours of degree credit at the Community College.
Non-traditional students are
exempt from all categories of the pre-college curriculum requirements.
Application for Transfer to the Community College
A student transferring to BGCC
from an accredited college or university must submit an application for
admission and the application fee. One official transcript from each college
attended is required. Transfer students with less than 24 semester hours of degree
credit must also meet requirements for beginning freshmen and supply high
school transcripts, ACT/SAT/ACCUPLACER and/or GED information. Applicants are
not allowed to ignore previous college work.
Visiting Students
A student currently enrolled at another
college or university may apply for admission as a visiting student. The
student must be in good standing from the “home” college and have permission
from the “home” college to take specific courses at Bowling Green Community
College.
Orientation
All students entering Bowling
Green Community College for the first time as degree-seeking students are
required to participate in the Academic Transitions Program. The purpose of
this program is to help new students become familiar with WKU, meet BGCC faculty/staff
and other new BGCC students, take placement exams, and meet with an academic
advisor to register for classes.
