Packed up and ready
to go. About 1 mile into the trip, Jorge and Jared, who were driving
the truck, discovered that not only did the AC not work on the truck, the
heat was stuck on. Tough way to travel in 90 degree heat. These
guys were great for putting up with that. |
 |
During the trip, to Rapid City,
we were able to take in some of Americas greatest landmarks, like the St.
Louis Arch... |
 |
...and Mt. Rushmore. Chris,
what are you doing? |
 |
...and The Badlands. Kevin
seems to be enjoying more than the view, isn't he Jared. |
 |
We were most fortunate to see one
of Americas greatest landmarks, the infamous "Corn Palace". The murals
on this building are made from colored ears of corn. |
 |
We also were able to see the "International
Balloon Museum". Here, Iain takes and educational journey. |
 |
Just when things were going great,
we had a little trouble with the truck. A hole in the radiator slowed
us down a tad. |
 |
About an hour later, we are almost
ready to go |
 |
With the truck fixed, we all took
a picture with the man who saved our trip. He fixed the radiator
and the air conditioner. Jared and Jorge were psyched. A strange
twist of fate though...the temperature dropped into the low 40's and now
the AC was stuck on. Brutal luck. |
 |
Shortly after the truck was repaired,
we had an interruption in the radio broadcast we were listening to..."A
tornado has been spotted near Reliance South Dakota". We then looked
up and saw a sign "Reliance - 1 mile". Here we are waiting out the
storm under a bridge with about 10 other cars. Fortunately,
we never saw the twister, and survived. |
 |
Finally, we arrived at the Nationals
and got the display set up... |
 |
...and the canoe. The judges
told us we had the best name of all the canoes. |
 |
The races finally started on Saturday.
Jared and Iain are ready to go in the mens distance. |
 |
Here they are bringing it home. |
 |
BJ and Jorge take off in the mens
sprint |
 |
BJ down the stretch |
 |
Jorge steering the way. |
 |
Jorge was interviewed by network
news. The interview was shown on WBKO. |
