For
over 25 years a workshop/course has been offered at Land
Between the Lake jointly by Western Kentucky University and
Marray State University. During June 14-20, 2008, WKU and
MSU will be offering a very special opportunity. For a variety
of reasons, including our source of funding for this event,
this year's experience will be an ADVANCED training, and
will only be open to individuals who have taken the LBL course
previously. In addition, because of a special arrangement
with our funder, the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education
(CPE), priority will be given to individuals who attended
the 2007 workshop, and then the remaining slots can be filled
by people who attended in previous years.
As
in the past, the workshop will be headquartered at
Brandon spring Group Camp and will utilize much of
the 170,000 acres at LBL as an outdoor learning laboratory.
daytime and evening activities will focus on increasing
teachers' understanding of both the natural and cultural
world, with an emphasis on how to translate that knowledge
and appreciation to preK-12 students. This experience
is appropriate for eductors of all subject areas. It
will emphaziae instructional strategies appropriate
for all facets of the school curriculum, including
science, social studies, math, languages arts, fine
arts, health, physical education, business education,
and family consumer science.
The
grant acquired from the CPE wil support participants
in this program. The grant will cover eligible participants'
room and board expenses. In addition, participants
will receive a total of $440 in stipends for completing
the project requirements. Also, approximately $300
worth of materials will be provided to each participant
for participating in the program. Graduate credit is
available for this program from WKU under ENVE 580
or ENVE 585, depending on the needs of your program.
Permission of the instructor is required for admittance
to either of these courses AND individuals who take
the experience for this graduate credit are eligible
to apply for a scholarship up to $500 to help defray
the tuition.
