"Lincoln at 200: The Man, The Myth, The Monument "
The Center for the Study of the Civil War in the West is developing symposia on various topics related to the Civil War in the West that will be offered on the Western Kentucky University campus to scholars, students, and the general public. In the planning stage is the first such symposium: “Lincoln at 200: The Man, The Myth, The Monument,” a major program that will feature nationally known Lincoln scholars and up-and-coming Lincoln experts for a weekend-long conference, tentatively scheduled for October 2008. This symposium will be an integral part of the celebrations of the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth in Kentucky and in the nation. The symposium’s papers and presentations will result in a major trade publication on Lincoln and his legacy. The program will include a tour of the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site in Hodgenville, led by a Lincoln “look-alike”; a presentation of “Lincoln’s Favorite Music,” performed by a leading Civil War reenactment band; and other special activities. The program is scheduled for October 8-11 2008.
