Welcome to Western Kentucky University’s Center for the Study of the Civil War in the West. The Center and its website are dedicated to fostering the scholarship and study of the Civil War in all its aspects—military, political, social, and economic—that took place west of the Appalachian Mountains and within the area of the war’s Western Theater. The Center offers various programs of interest to scholars, teachers, students, and the general public, including symposia and conferences on various topics, tours of historic sites and battlefields, fellowships for visiting scholars, publications, curriculum development for K-12 teachers, and other projects aimed at expanding an understanding of the Civil War in the West.
