Two Public Health Alumnae Receive Awards from ACHCA

ACHCA is the professional society representing the interests of long term care administrators throughout North America.
At the Annual District Meeting of the American College of Health Care Administrators in March (MI-IN-OH-KY-WV), two members with WKU’s HAS program connections received awards:
- Alumna Heather O’Banion, an MHA graduate and current Executive Director of Village Manor Retirement Community in Bowling Green, was recognized as the Kentucky Chapter’s “New Administrator of the Year.”
- Alumna and Department of Public Health Faculty Member, Melanie Eaton, received the Kentucky Chapter’s “Distinguished Service to ACHCA Award” for her leadership in involving WKU students in the professional society for long term care administrators.

Preventable hospitalizations are costly among Medicaid enrollees in comprehensive managed care plans, according to new research from Western Kentucky University.
Dr. Scott Lyons, director of the School of Kinesiology, Recreation & Sport (KRS) at Western Kentucky University partnered with three colleagues, Dr. John Jackson of the University of Alabama, Dr. Willie Hey of the University of Louisiana-Monroe, and Mr.
Western Kentucky University’s (WKU) Department of Public Health is now offering a Joint Undergraduate Master’s Program, JUMP-MHA.
