Undergraduate Program
The Exercise Science major (reference number 554) provides students with classroom and laboratory experiences concentrating on the science of human performance. Practicum and internship opportunities permit students to gain experience and develop skills in various applied settings such as physical therapy, cardiac/pulmonary rehabilitation, fitness management, strength/conditioning and university research. Exercise Science also offers excellent preparation for students who wish to pursue graduate level education in this dynamic field.
The Exercise Science major requires 55 credit hours and leads to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. The remaining credit hours required to complete the 120 hours necessary for graduation (effective December 2009) are approximately 46 credit hours of general education courses and approximately 19 credit hours of courses from a minor of the student's choice, unrestricted electives, and/or courses required for admittance to the student's selected graduate program ("prerequisites"). Areas of study include human nutrition, biomechanics, exercise physiology (basic theory, applied, and clinical), exercise and aging, basic athletic training and exercise testing/prescription. A practicum experience and an internship are also required for this degree.
