We are delighted that you have selected WKU to continue your nursing education. The Post RN/BSN program of study is designed to facilitate registered nurses (RNs) to complete the requirements for the baccalaureate of science nursing degree (BSN). This academic program is accredited by the Commission on collegiate nursing Education (CCNE) of the American Association of College of nursing (AACN). Students may select part-time or full-time study.

Program Requirements
- Students admitted to the program must have an Associate Degree in Nursing or establish credit for previous nursing courses equivalent to the Associate Degree nursing courses. (See Validation of Prior Learning for Diploma Graduates).
- Students must meet the general education requirements for a baccalaureate degree.
- Students should have documentation of their transcript of the completion of the following courses or equivalent courses:
- Chemistry 109
- Biology 131 (Anatomy and Physiology)
- Biology 207/208 (Microbiology and Microbiology lab)
- Psychology 199 (Growth and Development Psychology)
- CFS 111 (Human Nutrition)
- With the exception of the nursing courses that can be challenged (NURS 300, 309, 315) and the nursing elective course, NURS 323 must be the first course taken after admission to the Post-RN program.
- A basic statistics course (3 semester credits) must be completed before the student registers for NURS 412 (Nursing Research).
- NURS 430 must be taken concurrently with NURS 431
- NURS 340 must be completed before the student registers for NURS 430/431 (effective Fall, 2009).
- NURS 408 must be taken in the final semester of the program.
- 122 credit hours are required for graduation.
Validation of Learning for Diploma Graduates
- Obtain a passing score in the areas of adult, maternal-child, and mental health on either the NLN Acceleration Challenge Examination (ACE) or the ACT Pep Examinations.
- Contact the School of Nursing to discuss the validation process and schedule the examination prior to enrolling in the first course
- Applicants will have two (2) opportunities to successfully complete each examination.
