Student engagement in the community provides service opportunities and a chance to gain broader perspectives on the nonprofit sector. Our American Humanics students plan and carry out projects to serve community members in need.

On November 13, 2006, the AH program announced a new community service project initiative designed to assist local nonprofit agencies. The program, adapted from a program at the University of Northern Iowa, involves the AH students issuing a request for proposals to the local nonprofit community. The RFP asks agencies to propose projects they need help with, which would create professional development opportunities for the students. O
n April 4, 2007 the WKU American Humanics Student Association (AHSA) announced "Friends of The Lost River, Inc." as their selection for 1st Annual Community Partnership. The students worked on this project during the 2007-2008 academic year. Subsequent awardees are listed below.
