Background
Janice Carter Smith earned her Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders and Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology degrees from the University of Kentucky. Before joining the faculty at WKU, she worked as an SLP in the public schools for 6 years. She then began working with the Medical Center at Bowling Green and as a Clinical Supervisor at the Clinical Education Complex. Additionally, Janice has worked as an Autism Consultant with the schools. She has presented at several state and national conferences regarding her research on Autism and related disorders. She has taught courses regarding both the development and disorders of language. Janice is a wife and the mom of two beautiful children. She enjoys spending time playing in the yard, reading and engaging in the call of Christ.

Philosophy of Teaching
I strive to utilize a diversity of teaching strategies to help my students achieve their goals. By engaging my classes in small group and whole class discussions, role plays, debates, independent studies, and inventive projects, we will build energy, enthusiasm, and passion that will carry us through the material and into real life applications. By cultivating an environment of mutual respect and security where all students are free of the fear of rejection and criticism, we will enable each other to express opinions, and thoughts that deepen our learning experiences. Finally, by understanding that students are individuals who have different interests, different motivations, and different learning styles, I endeavor to create a classroom that is dynamic in presentations, relationships, and experiences.
