WKU News Release -  Western Kentucky University’s Center for Gerontology recently entered into a partnership with Christian Care Communities to provide learning opportunities that will span generations.

The Center for Gerontology hosted a world premiere screening of “Say Goodbye to Granddad’s Retirement” for the campus and community on October 22 in the Downing University Center Theater.   Written and directed by Tony Walker, a 1983 WKU graduate, the film features WKU Gerontology students and professors. Dr. Dana Burr Bradley (Director, Center for Gerontology) and Dr. Brian Strow from WKU’s Department of Economics served as consultants in the film.

Western Kentucky University, through its Center for Gerontology, has been invited to join the Student Mentoring Conference on Gerontology and Geriatrics.  The organization began 18 years ago at the University of Georgia.

Providing long-term care to older adults is a growing challenge for American families. About 10 million people 65 and older now depend on such services, and that number is expected to double by 2040.

Dr. Dana Burr Bradley co-authored a study examining women and depression appearing in the June issue of Social Forces. Although the sex difference in depression is well documented in westernized, developed countries, there is little quantitative cross-cultural research on the topic.
