The Paperless Instructor

WKU offers a wealth of instructional tools for faculty to integrate into their courses. Not only do these tools enhance the learning experience, but they also re-enforce sustainability by requiring 0% paper waste.

Please visit the IT Training Video Tutorials website for more info on many of these topics below! While you are there, be sure to also check the November IT Training Calendar for upcoming training workshops. They will also work with your department or group to arrange a time and place to offer these sessions that is more convenient. There are also a number of other workshops available COMPLETELY online through the IT Training tab inside Blackboard (http://ecourses.wku.edu) or by going here.

Blackboard

  • Assignments - This feature of Blackboard allows instructors to receive homework assignments in electronic format, rather than on paper.

  • Assessments - Create, deploy and grade online tests. You can set up your quizzes and exams so that every student gets a different version and the attempts can be graded automatically. There are also tools to alleviate concerns about cheating.

  • Blogs and Wikis - The newly added blog and wiki features in Blackboard can simplify the way you manage individual and group writing assignments. They also provide excellent ways for you to provide feedback and grades without the need for printing.

  • Respondus - Respondus is a software package you can download to any computer (University-owned or personal) that works in conjunction with the Blackboard Assessment feature. Learn how to manage and use test materials you have already developed in a convenient way in Blackboard.

  • Self & Peer Assessment - Blackboard 8 introduces a new feature called Self and Peer Assessment. This feature allows instructors to enter questions and establish grading criteria and then allow students to assess their own work and/or the work of other students in the class.

  • Grading papers with MS Word 2007 - Microsoft Word has features that allow you to mark up documents, track changes, and add comments just as you would on paper.

  • Tegrity - is an online tool that allows you to add multimedia content to your Blackboard courses.
