Welcome to Western Kentucky University! We are thrilled that you have decided to be part of the WKU family! The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) wants to help you have a successful transition into your classes at WKU! We hope that the experiences you have a Western will leave you with life long memories. Below is information that will hopefully help you with your transition into Western Kentucky University and the College of Health and Human Services. ü Send your transcripts
Student transferring from another accredited college should request that an official transcript from each college attended be mailed to the WKU Admissions Office, 1906 College Heights Blvd. #11020, Bowling Green, KY 42101-1020 or call (270)745-2751 if you have questions. ü Register for Classes
o To schedule an appointment with your advisor call you department. You can find a listing of department numbers at WKU Directory.
o Meet with your advisor to learn about the program, careers, and class suggestions.
ü Reserve your Textbooks
o Under Student Services, click on “Textbook Reservation” and follow the step by step directions. Textbook Registration ends July 31, 2008 for the Fall and Spring semesters.
ü Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships (apply or questions)
Questions concerning student financial aid, student employment and scholarships can be answered by the Office of Student Financial Assistance (270)745-2755, see the website at Student Financial Assistance (http://www.wku.edu/Info/FinAid/ or E-mail your questions to fa.questions@wku.edu or scholarships@wku.edu.
ü Arrange for Housing
o On Campus Housing -- All freshman and sophomores at WKU are required to live in a residence hall. If you need a housing application or have questions please call 270.745.4359, visit the Housing and Residence Life website (http://www.wku.edu/Dept/Support/Housing/HRL/HOME/) or E-mail housing@wku.edu. WKU does not at this time offer married student housing.
o If you are joining WKU in the Fall semester, a transitional program is available called Master Plan. See website for more information.
ü Purchase a Meal Plan
Dining Services has an assortment of meal plans available for students. All freshmen at WKU are required to buy a meal plan. Plans can be purchased on-line at: www.WKUdining.com or phone (270) 745-2416.
ü Student ID
Get your student ID either before school starts or the first week of classes, by visiting the I.D. Center office on the first floor of the Downing University Center (room #126). More information is available: http://www.wku.edu/Info/General/IDCenter/home.htm
ü Parking
Purchase a parking pass (on-line) before your arrive to campus or your first day at WKU. For more information about parking please visit their website at Parking and Transportation (http://www.wku.edu/transportation).
ü Learn about Campus
Campus tours are a great way to learn your way around campus. Tours leave every day during the academic year at 9:15 and 11:15 AM, and at 10 AM during the summer. Reservations are suggested: http://www.wku.edu/Info/Admissions/ , call 270-745-2551 or take a virtual tour: http://www.wku.edu/tour.html
