A group of 5 students enrolled in Small Business Management (ENT 463) consulted and evaluated this business in fall 2012. This was a semester long consulting project that resulted in working directly with the business owner and the managers in evaluating the business thoroughly including all aspects of marketing and providing future recommendations to grow and expand.
Sun Suites Salon & Spa is a premier female owned full service spa located in Downtown Bowling Green, KY. The spa has been operating in Bowling Green for more than 10 years and has an annual sales of under $1 million. The spa currently employs 15 fulltime service providers.
Result: The students were invited back by the owner to work as paid consultants on an ongoing basis.
Candle Makers on the Square

Candle Makers on the Square is another unique small business located in Downtown Bowling Green, KY. Along with gift items, the store specializes in producing hand poured candles. The business is owned locally and currently employs 2 personals. The current annual sales are less than $250, 000 and the business has been in operation for more than 5 years now.
A second group consisting of 5 students enrolled in Small Business Management (ENT 463) consulted and evaluated this business in fall 2012. This was also a semester long consulting project that resulted in working directly with the General Manager for the store. Candle Makers wanted the student team to evaluate all aspects of the business including in store merchandising of its various products. The student team provided key recommendations for future growth and expansion for this landmark downtown business.
Result: The owner of the business was so impressed with the work from this student group that he invited the students to work with the business as paid consultants on a long term basis.
ITEX Bowling Green

A group of 3 students enrolled in Small Business Analysis and Strategy (ENT 496) in the fall of 2012 worked with ITEX Bowling Green in developing a comprehensive strategic plan for this start-up. The project consisted of working directly with ITEX Bowling Green founder Rick and Justin Raque. Along with a long term strategic plan, the group assisted the founders in creating a strategic matrix showing a timeline of what key milestones needed to be accomplished in a one year and three year period to make the business viable as well as sustainable. In addition, the student team also worked at putting a framework together for a customer relationship management (CRM) system for ITEX Bowling Green.
ITEX Bowling Green is a start-up division of ITEX Global. ITEX is a business to business online bartering company. ITEX has helped thousands of businesses generate new sales, conserve cash flows and increase profits. ITEX processes cashless business transactions through their exclusive member only exclusive distribution channel for a nominal monthly membership fee. The company is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington.
Result: The strategic plan created by the student team will be utilized by Rick and Justin to grow their Bowling Green market and also expand their services to the Nashville, Tennessee market.
The Boys and Girls Club of Morgantown, Kentucky

Another group of 3 students enrolled in Small Business Analysis and Strategy (ENT 496) class in the fall of 2012 worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Morgantown, Kentucky. The students worked directly with the Managing Director in developing a strategic plan and a matrix for the organization located in Morgantown, KY. Since, the Boys and Girls Club of America is a national organization, the strategic plan was developed for the local Morgantown, Kentucky chapter. Students worked with the Managing Director of the chapter to develop a comprehensive plan that looked at all aspects of the organization from management, funding, and long term sustainability.
Boys and Girls Club of America are a safe place to learn and grow all while having fun. It is a place where great futures of leaders from acting to business have started. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.
Result: The managing director of the program was going to present the findings and recommendations from the students to her board for approval on spring 2013.
