International Student Teaching
Spain, Fall 2011
Time flies when you are having fun! It's hard to believe we are at the end of our first week here, but so far, things have been great! The flight was long, but everyone was very welcoming when we arrived. We met our mentors and mine seems wonderful! She speaks English, Catalan, and Spanish and she has even agreed to help me with some of my Spanish papers! She asked Laura Beth and I to do a presentation about Kentucky tomorrow so I'm excited to see the student's reactions to that. Our apartment, or "flat", is very nice, much nicer than I had anticipated. I am lucky enough to have my own room, and we have a well equipped kitchen as well. We also have a terrace/patio that has an amazing view of the mountains! So far, we've spent some time in La Garriga and Barcelona and both cities are beautiful! La Garriga is small, but has a lot of unique stores and cafes and I'm looking forward to exploring these some more. In contrast, Barcelona is huge but is full of interesting sites to see! Today, we took a bus tour of the city that lasted almost 4 hours. It was great to see all that the city has to offer and we have made a list of places we want to see in the future. We did get a chance to visit La Sagrada Familia and it was amazing! We had a great time sightseeing this weekend, but I am looking forward to our first full week in the classroom! I'm off to bed, but will email you again next week!
