1. Intro to Fly Fishing

2. Fly Tying
February 7th and 9th – 6-9 p.m.

- Cost:
- $169 (includes fly tying kit, $70 -$100 retail value)
- Registration Deadline: February 6, 2012
Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to demonstrate:
- Basic proficiency in using fly tying tools
- Basic fly tying techniques
- Application of techniques by tying several different fly patterns
- Knowledge of how the flies should be used
3. Fly Casting
April 14th – Noon-5 p.m.

- $149 (Fly rods will be provided during course. Student will be responsible for repair cost if rod is broken.)

Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Properly identify the parts of the fly fishing equipment
- Properly assemble the fly fishing equipment
- Demonstrate the primary casts used in fly fishing (forward, back, false, roll, side, S)
- Discuss the casts and their proper usage
About the Instructor
Dr. Raymond Poff is an associate professor in the WKU department of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport. He coordinates the Nonprofit Administration program at WKU and developed and teaches fly fishing courses during WKU’s Summer Sessions.
Dr. Poff has fly fishing experience in the United States and New Zealand and has experience both leading and instructing whitewater rafting and kayaking.
Prior to his work at WKU, Dr. Poff served as recreation coordinator of BYU’s Outdoors Unlimited, overseeing the full-service outdoor recreation shop and summer rafting program. He also spent several years as the purchasing coordinator and kayaking instructor for IU Outdoor Adventures and is the former president of the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education.
