Short term education programs provide fun and excitement while learning new things, sharing ideas, exploring new places and making new friends.
Western Kentucky University currently hosts the following Elderhostel program during the spring:
The Underground World: Exploring the World of Caves
Mammoth Cave National Park in the early spring is abundant with the wonderful colors of nature. Delve into the vast subterranean world of Mammoth Cave, the longest cave system in the world. Expert park rangers/instructors will guide your exploration of the cave as well as the region above it. Stand in awe of Mammoth Dome, vertical shafts reaching heights of 192 feet, and the Bottomless Pit, reaching depths of 105 feet. Coming above ground, learn of the indigenous and diverse flora and fauna and the fascinating wildlife through hiking the nature trails.
This is a very active program involving stairs and some narrow paths. Fee includes meals, lodging and all activities during this six-day, five-night program. Commuter rates are available. Anyone interested in more information should call our office at (270) 745-1912.

W.I.L.L. is based on the "peer learning" concept and is dedicated to the idea that living is learning. Members are able to have learning experiences in topics they enjoy. Senior adults are eager, self motivated learners capable of defining and directing their own education. Each Institute develops a character all its own, with goals consistent with the community and educational institution.
Persons 55 years or older who are interested in enriching their lives by continuing their education are eligible for enrollment in classes. A specific educational background is not required for participation in W.I.L.L.
The office of Continuing Education at Western Kentucky University is committed to the needs of adult learners. We are currently restructuring this program and would like to hear from you.
