Special Needs Summit: Building Bridges
October 26, 2012 • 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
The Special Needs Summit is an event for parents, caregivers, professionals, staff, and students who have an interest in the special needs community. Workshops will be offered on various topics relating to special needs, a talent show featuring children with special needs will take place in the afternoon, and a panel of college students from the Kelly Autism Program will speak about their experiences. The keynote speaker is Dr. Allan Beane, an internationally known author and speaker who will present "Bullying: Stop the Pain and Violence." Performances will include violinist Chapel Tinius and The Rockerz Dance Team.
Workshops will be offered to parents, caregivers, professionals, and students on topics relevant to special needs. Topics include applied behavior analysis, Michelle P. Waiver services, pediatric physical therapy, and creative self-care. Vendor tables providing information on community resources and services will be available. Parents of children with special needs and students attend free of charge and professionals pay a low registration fee which includes CEUs. Breakfast and lunch are provided.
