Introducing the WKU CCR&R Listserv
PRO-TALK !

What is a listserv?

PRO-Talk stands for Professional Resource Opportunities. A Listserv is a special e-mail group where messages can be sent from one person to all other persons who subscribe to the group. This communication system encourages rich discussions among peers and serves as a quick way to get a message to the entire group.

Using PRO-Talk will give you an opportunity to share professional ideas, questions, answers, resources, and concerns about early childhood and childcare.

All we need is your name, email address, and a password of your choice.

Math is everywhere around us!

We often think that math is only taught and
learned in elementary school, but that is far from being correct. There are many ways that we as child care providers can introduce math and teach math on a daily basis.

Math can be as simple as using math words (more, less, fewer, 1, 2, 3, some, many, etc),counting out loud what you see, matching pictures or sizes of items, or noticing similarities or differences in objects. Have fun with what you do with young children. Math is easy to incorporate into the day and you will be amazed at what children can learn.

Are you looking for ways to involve the
parents/families in your child care program?
Following are a few ways that you may find helpful.

• Volunteering in the classroom and
interacting with the children while they play

• Read to children

• Bring in cereal boxes, etc for the dramatic
play area. Children will use the alphabet and
many language skills when playing with these.
The boxes also make great drums!

• Playing games with children

• Assisting in designing or maintaining a parent
bulletin board

• Collecting materials for projects in the program

• Does a parent have a special hobby or a
special talent? Ask him/her to share with the class.
