Biology - Podiatric Medicine General Facts and Figures


There are 9 Colleges of Podiatric Medcine in the United States, all are members of AACPM.  For the class entering in the fall of 2009, there were 872 applicants for 687 spots in podiatry schools or about 1.3 applicants per opening (79% acceptance).  Historically, acceptance rates to podiatry schools has been between 60 and 85%.  The number of applications to podiatry schools has been on the increase the last 8 years, with a 13.6% increase for the 2009 entering class, owing in part to the opening of a new school.

Applicants:

96% hold a bachelor's degree, 43% major in biology, 20% in other physical sciences.
47% identify themselves as minority students
38% are female

Income:  A survey conducted in 2006 found the average NET income of a Podiatrist to be $189,030.
