Our Vision
Our vision is to build a city and region in which the growth of today fosters the economic, social, and environmental prosperity of tomorrow.
Our Mission
BGGreen is a diverse network of citizens working together to build sustainable communities in Bowling Green and throughout the south central Kentucky region. Sustainable development is most commonly defined as striving to meet the needs of the present generation without jeopardizing the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Economists might say it is “living off the interest instead of the principle.”
BGGreen supports the goals of environmental stewardship, economic prosperity, social justice, and citizen empowerment through community collaboration and education. More specifically, we are working to promote:
· “smart” growth to prevent urban sprawl and over-dependence on private cars
· community environmental education
· energy conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy
· use of local foods and resources
· minimizing waste through “reduce, reuse, recycle and redesign”
· preserving green space, farmland, forests, and clean waterways
· transportation alternatives and mass transit
· economic growth which is coupled with social and economic equity
· citizen empowerment in governance
