About us: The History
of BG Green
BGGreen was started in
October,
2006, by a group of citizens interested in building a more sustainable,
equitable, and vibrant community. Our
group was modeled after similar initiatives taking place in many
communities around
the state and country. Interest in its
goals continues to grow. Activities to

Green (& surrounding area) Green Directory
This 2008-2009 Green Living Directory was developed by BGGreen
Partnership for a Sustainable Community to help to promote ‘green’
businesses in our
community. Since our first printing in
2007, consumer awareness and demand for
greener business practices and products has increased and ‘greening’ or
at
least green-washing of businesses has become a common business strategy. This trend has been amplified and accelerated
by high gas and oil prices and a rapidly changing energy picture for
our
country.
This
directory is designed to help community members vote with their dollars
in
closer accordance with their beliefs. By
exercising the power of the purse, i.e., customer demand, we can
encourage
businesses to move beyond the profit motive, to help reduce
environmental
impacts and contribute to the building of a more equitable,
sustainable, safe,
and prosperous future in our city and region.
Most people want to be good stewards of the Earth. Yet, even with good intentions, time and
commitment constraints often get in the way of staying informed and
purchasing
energy-saving and environmentally-friendly products and services. This directory, then, is a tool for busy
people. Use it to acquire information
and make informed purchasing decisions, to stimulate greener business
practices, products, and services in the local community.
Throughout
this directory you will see *Green
Partners*. These businesses have made
contributions to
support the goals and mission of BG Green and to help fund the printing
of this
Green Living Directory. We encourage you
to thank these businesses and use them, so that they may prosper, for
the
benefit of all.
