• Landon Oakes Receives Outstanding Poster Award

Landon Oakes is a senior student at WKU in the Honors College. His major is mathematics, with a minor in physics. Oakes most recent research project has been in sensor applications of hybrid nanostructures. He started his research at Dr. Dobrokhotov’s lab in winter of 2008, where he was the first student to join.

“When he joined the laboratory, he demonstrated outstanding research skills and persistence in building experimental facilities, designing computational algorithms, and studying the properties of nanostructures and device fabrication. He is capable of managing several research projects at the same time and be a supervisor for younger students,” said Dr. Dobrokhotov.

Currently, Landon is a group leader, supervising a few younger undergraduates and Gatton Academy students in the laboratory. For his presentation on the hybrid nanostructures for sensing appications Landon received an “Outstanding Poster Presentation” award at the Second Annual International Nanotechnology Symposium 2009 hosted by Sullivan University. Next year he will join Homeland Security master’s program at WKU.
