Support Groups

Adoption Support Group
Adoption Support for Kentucky groups will meet: In Warren County, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at Christ Episcopal Church 1215 State Street Bowling Green, KY and in Barren County, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the first Friday of the month at St.Andrews Church 910 Columbia Ave Glasgow, KY. Meetings are open to all adoptive or perspective adoptive parents, All adoption avenues welcome, private, state, foster to adopt, kinship & international. The Adoption Resource Center will have a parent support group and training the third Thursday of every month with the exception of June and July. Various topics are discussed that are unique to foster and adoptive parents. These meeting are at 441 Church Ave. in Bowling Green. Refreshments and free child care are provided. The Adoption Resource Center is a program of the Family EnrichmentCenter.

After the Stork (New Mom Support Group)
This new mother support group addresses the many issues that new mothers face as they adjust to life with a new baby. Time will also be given at each meeting for questions and discussion of specific concerns. New members are welcome. The Health & Wellness Center offers this group which meets January 8 & 22, February 12 & 26, and March 11 & 25. For more information contact 745-0942.

Alcohol Support Groups
Al-Anon's Bowling Green Friendship Group will meet at 7:30 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, at 10 a.m. Wednesday and at 10:30 a.m. each Saturday at the 13th Street Club.

Alcoholics Anonymous will meet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday through Friday and at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the 13th Street Club. AA also will meet from noon to 1 p.m. weekdays at the club. For other meeting times, contact AA at 782-5267.

Al-Anon Step by Step Group will meet at 7 p.m. each Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church's Room D.

Alateen will meet at 7:30 p.m. each Thursday at the 13th Street Club.

Alateen Friendship Group
Alateen is for members between the ages of 12 to 19 years whose life is being deeply affected by close contact with a problem drinker. The support group meets meets at the 13th Street Club, 1013 East 13th Street, Bowling Green, on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. (Central Time) For more information call the Alcoholics Anonymous office at 782-5257 or 846-3751. Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 8:00 p.m. each Tuesday and Saturday at the Masonic Lodge and Senior Center in Auburn.

Alzheimer's Support Group
Alzheimer's Support Group meets from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at The Medical Center Health and Wellness Center in Greenwood Mall. This support group is open to families and caregivers who need additional support in caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease. Staff from the Barren River Adult Day Care will facilitate the group. New members are welcome. For more information, call 745-0942.

Amputee Support Group
Amputee Support Group will meet at 3 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at Mediplex Rehab-Bowling Green. 

Attention Deficit Disorder
CHADD of Southcentral Kentuck
y, a support group for children and adults with attention deficit disorder, will meet at 7:00 p.m. the third Monday of each month at First Christian Church.

AWAKE
AWAKE
is a support group for people who have a sleep-related breathing disorder. It is also intended to help friends or relatives of people with this type of disorder. This group is part of the Health &Wellness Center, a service of The Medical Center, and meets second Thursdays from 5:00pm-6:00pm.

Bowling Green Asperger and Autism Resource Group
The Asperger and Autism group meets the 2nd Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm in the Barnes & Noble Community Room. The goal of the group is to provide opportunities for parents and professionals to learn together about the best ways to support children on the autism spectrum and to provide opportunities for parent to parent support. Brain Injury Support Groups
Brain Injury Association of Kentucky provides a support group for survivors of brain injuries and their families. The group meets at 6:00 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at SKY Rehab.

Breast Cancer Support
My Image: Life After Breast Cancer, a support group for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, are undergoing treatment or are survivors, meets at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in classroom 2 at Greenview Regional Medical Center. Breastfeeding Support
La Leche League breast feeding support group meets the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm in the Porter Cafe at the Bowling Green Public Library Main Branch. For more information contact Jennifer at 270-202-5324.

Cancer Support Group
The Cancer Support Group offers education and support to individuals with cancer, family members and caregivers will meet from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at The Medical Center Health and Wellness Center in Greenwood Mall. Christ-Centered Cancer Support Group
A new cancer support group with a “Christ-Centered” emphasis will be meeting on the first Thursday of every month. this group will be led by Elder Thomas Young, M.D., Oncologist. For more information call 780-0548.

Chemical Dependence
More Will be Revealed Group of Narcotics Anonymous will meet at 7:15 p.m. each Thursday at Hillvue Heights Baptist Church, 3219 Nashville Road.

The Happy, Joyous and Free Group will meet at 7:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Sunday at First Christian Church, 1106 State St.

Here and Now will meet at 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Nashville Road.

Co-Dependents Anonymous

Compassionate Friends-Bowling Green Chapter
Compassionate Friends-Bowling Green offers friendship, understanding and hope to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings. There is no religious affiliation, and there are no membership dues or fees. The mission is to assist families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age and to provide information to help others be supportive. New members are welcome. Meetings are 6:30-7:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at The Medical Center Health & Wellness Center at Greenwood Mall. Depression
Depressed Anonymous (DA) is a 12 step Peer Support Group that helps people struggling with depression to generate new positive energies, form networks of friendship and support, and give each other the strength to live each day with hope. DA meets twice a week in Bowling Green, at two different locations:

Diabetes Support Groups
The Diabetic Support Group of Fairview General Baptist Church will meet at 6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at the church.

The Diabetes Care and Education Group will meet at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Health and Wellness Center at Greenwood Mall.

For the Bowling Green-Warren County area: A diabetes support group is open to people with diabetes and their family members. Carolynn Burton, RN, certified diabetes educator, will lead the group. New members are welcome. Get more information by calling 796-5169.

For the Franklin-Simpson County area: Diabetes support group meetings are at The Medical Center at Franklin, 1100 Brookhaven Road, and is co-sponsored with the Barren River District Health Department.

Pediatric Diabetes Support Group is for children with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and their parents. Carolyn Burton, RN, will lead the group. This program is free of charge. New members are welcome. Divorce Support
DivorceCare will meet at 6:30p.m. each Monday at Hillvue Heights Church. 

Domestic Violence
Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. (BRASS) facilitates a specialized support group for children who have been exposed to domestic violence: Thursdays, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in a safe and confidential location. All locations are safe and confidential. Call 781-9334 for information.

Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. (BRASS) facilitates support groups for women who experienced intimate partner or domestic violence:

    • Monday night - 5:30-7:30- New Horizons
    • Tuesday night - 5:30-7:30 - Pattern Changing for Abused Women

Down Symdrome Support Group
Down Syndrome Support Group of South Central Kentucky is a parent and family support organization established to provide services, activities, and information to individuals and families that have been touched by Down Syndrome. Epilepsy Support/Social Group
Epilepsy Support Group - Educational classes and support group for individuals and families affected by epilepsy and seizure disorders. The Bowling Green epilepsy support group meets quarterly throughout at The ALIVE Center. Staff from the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana facilitate the support group, and guest speakers present various educational topics. LifeSkills’ Family Support Groups
Warren County Family Support Group – Will meet on the first Tuesday of the month, from 5:30-7:30 P.M. @ Hillvue Heights Church, 3219 Nashville Road, Bowling Green, KY. Group location is in the new part of the building.

Allen County Family Support Group – Will meet on the second Tuesday of the month, from 5:30-7:30 P.M. @ Allen County Scottsville Community Center, 311 North 3rd Street, Scottsville, KY.

Metcalfe County Family Support Group – Will meet on the third Tuesday of the month, from 5:30-7:30 P.M. @ Bowling Park, 1608 W Stockton Street, Edmonton, KY.

Edmonson County Family Support Group – Will meet on the second Thursday of the month, from 5:30-7:30 P.M. @ Edmonson County LifeSkills Service Center, 205 Mohawk Street, Brownsville, KY. (Our Parent/Guardian group will be located at the LifeSkills Service Center & our Children’s group will be located at the Edmonson Co. Community Center, 108 North Main St. We will combine both groups every June & December @ the Community Center.)

Food Education and Allergy Support
FEAST (Food Education and Allergy Support Team) will meet the 1st Tuesday of the month from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Medical Center's Health and Wellness Center located in the Greenwood Mall. FEAST is a team of parents of children with food allergies, individuals with food allergies, and community professionals supportive of those affected by food allergies.

Gambling
Gam-Anon -- Efforts are under way to organize a Gam-Anon group in Bowling Green. Gam-Anon is a fellowship of men and women who have been affected by the gambling problem. If interested, call Sandra at 745-2894.

Gastric Bypass Support Group
Gastric Bypass Support Group offers education and support to patients who have undergone or will undergo the surgical procedure of Gastic Bypass. Meets at the Health and Wellness Center in Greenwood Mall the 3rd Thursday of each month from 6pm - 7:30pm. New members are welcome. Grandparents Online Forum for parents, grandparents, educators: “Connect for Kids“
The Child Care Reource and Referral at WKU now has an online forum (message board) called Connect For Kids. The web address is: http://www.wku.edu/cfk. This was developed to offer mothers, fathers, grandparents, educators, and anyone interested in children a place to connect with each other, get support, and have fun! Grief
Griefshare, a recovery seminar and support group, meets at 6:30 p.m. each Monday at Southern Heights Baptist Church in Russellville. For more information, call Chris Short at 726-3491.

Mended Hearts is a support group for individuals who have heart disease and/or who have had a heart procedure. Hepatitis Support Group

Huntington Disease Support
Huntington Disease Society of America will have a family support group meeting at 2 p.m. the first Sunday of each month at Mercy Hospital's Annex Room in Owensboro. 

Huntington Disease support group for caregivers will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. the second Monday of each month at Best Center for Independent Living.

Huntington Disease Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Mercy Hospitals Annex Room in Owensboro.

Kid's Club
Kid's Club, a support group for all young people with a family or friend in any type of recovery, will meet at 1 p.m. each Sunday at HOPE Harbor Community Center.

Lupus Support Group
Lupus Support Group meets 2nd Monday night of each month at Greenview Hospital, Classroom #1 at 7:30 PM. The group coordinator is Stephanie Slavey. If you have any questions call Stephanie at 270-846-0972. 

Mental Health / Mental Illness

NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) Bowling Green -- A Grassroots Voice on Mental Illness -- Representing South Central Kentucky meets at 7:00 p.m. the 3rd Monday of each month at the Best Center for Independent Living, 624 Eastwood Avenue, Bowling Green, KY. NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is a 12-week course for families of individuals with severe brain disorders (mental illnesses). The curriculum focuses on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression), clinical depression, panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The course discusses clinical treatment of these illnesses and teaches the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively. Classes are free. Military Family Support Group
Military Family Support Group, The military support group is designed for families of military personnel serving in the Middle East. The support group meets the second Wednesday of the month from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Health & Wellness Center in Greenwood Mall. Multiple Sclerosis
The Multiple Sclerosis Mutual Help Group:  will meet at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at Mediplex Rehabilitation Center, 1300 Campbell Lane.

Muscular Dystrophy
MD support group will meet at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Mediplex Rehabilitation Center.

Parenting Support
Parents Support Groups: Groups meet at 441 Church Avenue (Family Enrichment Center) the last Thursday of each month 5:30 PM to 7:30 pm.  Free transportation is provided to all participants within Warren County. Parents as Teachers: Parents as Teachers is a parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until the child reaches age five. By knowing what to expect as their child develops parents are better able to provide for their child's needs. For more information call the Family Enrichment Center at 781-6714.

Supervised Visitation: Family Enrichment Center provides private supervised visitation and mediation for families that have custody, reunification, domestic violence, child abuse and/or other family crises. LOST: A Survivors of Suicide Support Group. LOST is a support system that has been established to reach out to other who have lost a loved one to suicide of all age groups. All are welcome and everything is kept confidential within the group. Veterans Assistance
A Kentucky Center of Veterans Affairs representative will be at the National Guard Armory on Morgantown Road from 9 a.m. to noon the third Wednesday of each month to assist veterans and/or their dependents regarding benefit claims.

Western Kentucky Mothers of Multiples (WKMOM)
The Western Kentucky Mothers of Multiples (WKMOM) is a nonprofit support group for mothers of twins, triplets and higher order multiples. Monthly meetings provide a network of moral support from mothers who have been there and survived and often feature informative programs.
