Historic Rail Park Train Museum & L & N Depot
Rail Camp ‘09
Monday, June 15 for ages 5 & 6

Thursday, June 18 for ages 11 & 12
Time: 9:00am to 11:30am

Description: Half day programs the week of June 15 let you step back in history to experience all the fun of riding the rails, see behind the scenes at the Historic Rail Park Museum, spend time on the train cars, sing songs, hear stories, make crafts, and lots of other fun stuff!

Junior Tour Guide Program

Fee: Free, Cave Tour can apply
Time: 9-5, everyday of the week
Location: Lost River Cave and Valley
                2818 Nashville Rd.
                Bowling Green, KY 42101

Description: Complete three of five activities in the Junior Tour Guide booklet and receive a certificate and patch.  The activities include taking a cave tour, leading your family or friends on a guided hike, interviewing park guides, teaching others about Lost River Cave and Valley through public speaking and interpretation, and showing pride in the park.  Children will learn about the history, geology and environment at Lost River, explore nature, gain and share knowledge with others, help protect a natural and historical resource and be active in the outdoors!  Tour Guide Booklet is available at the Visitor Center. 
Program can be completed in a minimum of 2-3 hours--but feel free to spend the entire day with us! 

Kentucky Museum Summer Camps 2009
The Kentucky Library & Museum will host summer camps from 8:00 a.m.–12:00 noon, Monday through Friday, during June 2009.

Back Yard History Camp (June 1 –5)
For children entering grades 5 – 7. Explore Bowling Green’s history. Bring your cameras, wear your walking shoes and discover history in your own backyard. We will explore the Railpark and Train Museum, Lost River, Riverview, Fountain Square Park and much more. Fee: $140

Kentucky Clay Camp with Davie Reneau (June 8 – 12)
For children in grades 1 – 5. Students will learn clay hand building techniques including pinch pots, coil and slab work. Fee: $100

Fine Art with Lynne Ferguson (June 15 – 19)
For children in grades 1 – 5. Participants will build on their basic drawing, painting, and design skills. Medium will include pen & ink, charcoal, watercolor, pastels, acrylic paint. Fee: $100

Exploring Cultures (June 22 –26)
For children in grades 1 – 5. Students examine different cultures, with music, art, games, costume and food. Students will listen to music and try musical instruments, do different crafts, experience different foods and see traditional costumes of cultures in Asia, Africa, and Europe. Fee: $100

After Camp Care:
In addition, after camp activities will be offered from 12 –4 daily at the Kentucky Library & Museum. After Camp fee is $50 per child, per week.

There will be a snack break twice daily; a drink and snack will be provided.
Space is limited, so register early. Friends of Libraries & Museum receive a 10% discount on all camp fees!

Summer Camp for Academically Talented Middle School Students (SCATS) 2009

Date: June 14 - 26, 2009
Time: Residential or Non-Residential
Ages: completed the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade
Location: Western Kentucky University

Cost: $600 (non-residential) and $1300 (residential)
Description: This two-week camp provides a wide range of classes for academically talented middle school students. Campers take four enrichment classes a day.  Sample offerings include Chinese, Rocket Science, Mural Madness, CSI, and Acting.

Summer Program for Verbally and Mathematically Precocious Youth (VAMPY) 2009

Date: June 28 - July 18, 2009
Time: Residential
Ages: completed the 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th grade
Location: Western Kentucky University

Cost: $1900
Description: This camp provides the opportunity for students to spend three weeks studying one course in great depth. To be eligible, a student must have earned a qualifying ACT or SAT score. Students choose one of thirteen classes including such options as Forensic Chemistry, Physics, Civil War, and Mock Trial.
