Bio
At the ALIVE Center, Communications & Marketing Coordinator Aurelia Spaulding works to promote the ALIVE Center’s services, the spirit of engagement at WKU, and encourage individuals to serve in the community.
Spaulding promotes the Center’s services and the spirit of engagement through updating the website and social media, creating news release and public service announcements, and designing and utilizing brochures, rack cards, media kits, and handouts. She writes articles and designs the layout for the Progression Through Partnership newsletter and Spirit of Engagement magazine. In addition, Spaulding works with the staff to coordinate events to promote programs like the Steps to a $100 Solution workshop to promote The $100 Solution™.
Spaulding encourages individuals to serve in the community by promoting volunteerism, service-learning, and community-based scholarship. She speaks to individuals and groups about planning for continued service, and she is available to talk to groups about planning projects using the Partnership Tool Kit. Spaulding works with the staff and partnering organizations to plan events ranging in size from five to 1,000 including, but not limited to the following: Summer Workshop Series, Big Red’s Blitz (in partnership with HRL), Project Affect (in partnership with ICSR), CANstruct for a Cause, National Volunteer Week (in partnership with Leadership & Volunteerism), President’s Volunteer Service Award reception, and the 2012 Kentucky Engagement Conference.
Daily, Spaulding works with student interns at the Center. She works along 1-3 interns a semester, teaching and offering hands-on experience with creating communication pieces and plans and building teamwork and organizational skills.
Aurelia Spaulding received her Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations from Western Kentucky University, and earned a Master of Public Administration degree in December 2012. She holds membership in the Professional Marketing Association and the Public Relations Society of America. Spaulding utilizes her Leadership Certificate from WKU by serving in organizations like the NAACP and Gamma Sigma Sigma.
Aurelia's passion in life has developed to one that encourages her to help others become more self-sufficient. Her vision is to help others help themselves. She is learning more about policies and community development programs as a Master of Public Administration student and hopes to one-day create a transitional program that focuses on educational, health, and financial empowerment women aged 20-30.
Spaulding believes that to whom much is given, much is expected. She has been blessed with much in life and hopes to share the knowledge gained from those experiences to bless others.
