Privacy Policy

Our Commitment to Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. Our ongoing commitment to the protection of your privacy is essential to maintaining the relationship of trust that exists between the ALIVE Center and all of our community partners, whether they are nonprofit organizations, WKU faculty, staff, and students, volunteers, or other visitors to the site. This notice of our privacy policy is intended to help you understand our online information security practices.

The Information We Collect

You may have accessed the ALIVE Center directly by visiting our website, the home page of which is located at www.wku.edu/alive. This notice applies to all information you submit to the ALIVE Center. Please note that we cannot be responsible for the information you submit directly to third parties; nonprofit organizations that may have their own policies regarding the collection and use of your information. We urge you to review the policies of agencies listing volunteer opportunities on our site.

The information we collect online is used to connect volunteers with organizations and volunteer opportunities. Personally identifying information that you provide by emails or Web forms will be used only for such purposes as described at the point of collection, such as to send information to you, update your membership record, or to respond to your questions or comments.

The types of personal information we collect are:

For Registered Users:

• First and last name, address, zip code, phone number, email, birth year, username (to protect your security ALIVE Center staff do not have access to your Password), volunteer preferences, and education

For Nonprofit Organizations:

• Administrator Information: first and last name, email, telephone number

• Volunteer Coordinator: first and last name, and email

• Organization Information: organization name, contact information (including street address, phone, fax, email), description of services, web site address, hours of operation, service area, and costs

We send all new registered users a welcoming email to verify username and password. Registered users as well as administrators and volunteer coordinators at nonprofit organizations will occasionally receive information on services, updates or newsletters. When required, we will communicate with our users via email or phone.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect about you to facilitate the volunteering process and to provide information to you about the ALIVE Center and volunteerism in your community. Please be aware that, to the extent required to provide our services, we share some of your information with nonprofit organizations as applicable:

For Registered Users:

If you sign up for an opportunity listed on the website, an email will be automatically generated to the designated Volunteer Coordinator at the nonprofit organization containing your so that the organization can contact you regarding your potential involvement. Each nonprofit organization has its own policies regarding the collection and use of personal information, and the ALIVE Center is not responsible for their use of your information.

We may use our email lists for sending out our newsletter and other ALIVE Center outbound communications. We do not, however, sell, rent or trade our registered user information to outside parties and only use your information as described herein.

For Nonprofit Organizations:

If you submit information to us as a nonprofit organization, your information will be accessible by anyone who visits the ALIVE Center website. Nonprofit organizations who receive contact information, (first and last name, email and phone number), from potential volunteer signups are strongly encouraged to adopt privacy standards similar to those of the ALIVE Center. Inappropriate use of personal information received from the ALIVE Center may jeopardize nonprofit inclusion on our website and use of ALIVE Center services. The ALIVE Center reserves the right to determine what constitutes inappropriate use of this information.

How You Can Change Your Information

If you are a registered user or a nonprofit agency, and you wish to update or delete your information on the website, you need to contact the ALIVE Center by sending an email to alivebg@wku.edu or calling 270-782-0082.

Children’s Guidelines

The ALIVE Center respects the sensitive nature of children's privacy online. We are a general audience site, and do not direct our content specifically at children under thirteen (13) years of age. The ALIVE Center supports and complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and will not collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Children under the age of 13 wishing to volunteer for a youth volunteer opportunity posted on our site must have a parent contact the ALIVE Center to give consent and signup.

Cookies

Cookies are tiny data files that websites commonly write to your hard drive when you visit them so that they can remember you when you visit. A cookie file contains information that can identify you anonymously and maintain your account's privacy. Our site uses cookies to maintain a user's identity between sessions so that the site can be personalized based on user preferences or a user's history.

Please be aware that these sites are beyond our control, and while we take reasonable caution to link to sites we feel are appropriate and relevant, we are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of other sites. Data Security

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. The servers that store your personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment. ALIVE Center protects all and any information from our users. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job are granted access to personally identifiable information.

Changes to Policy

ALIVE Center reserves the right to change or modify this privacy statement at any time without prior notice. ALIVE Center will notify you of any such changes by posting notice of the changes on the ALIVE Center Web site so you are always informed of the information we collect and how we use it.
