February 2012 -- Parker Bennett Community Center's Black History Month Activities

Various activies are taking place at Parker Bennett Community Center throughout February from 4:00-5:00pm.  Volunteers are needed to help monitor kids and assist with activities.  Contact Omar at 270-393-3691 for more information.

 

February 21st, 2012 -- First Book Distribution Week in Hart County

First Book is a national nonprofit organization celebrating its 20th year that distributes brand-new books to children from low-income families.  They will be distributing roughly 300,000 books to kids in the Hart County area and around the country the week of February 21st, and would love to see volunteers from Western Kentucky University help them achieve this goal.

February 25th, 2012 -- Super Sib Day

Volunteers are needed for "Super Sib Day," a special event for siblings of children with special needs (including intellectual, behavioral, physical, and health).  The event is a collaboration between the Family Resource Program of the Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex and the Regional Child Development ClinicsThe event will take place on Saturday, February 25th from 9am to 1pm at the Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex (CEC) on WKU's campus.  They will have activities for siblings ages 5-17, with lunch provided.  Volunteers will be provided with lunch also.  Volunteers will need to come at 8am to help with preparations.  For those who can stay later, we will need help with clean up until approximately 2pm.  If possible, they would like for volunteers to attend their volunteer orientation the day before (Friday, February 24th at 11:00am), also at CEC; however, it is not mandatory.

March 16th, 2012 -- Parker Bennett Community Center's St. Patty's Day Party

Parker Bennett Community Center's St. Patty's Day Party for youth ages 6-14 on March 16 from 4:00-5:00pm.  Volunteers are needed to help monitor kids and games and set up and tear down the event.  Contact Omar at 270-393-3691 for more information.

 

March 10th-24th -- Parker Bennett Community Center's Super Saturdays

Parker Bennett Community Center is hosting Super Saturdays:  a day of fun and games every Saturday from March 10th to March 24th.  The events will be held from 10:00am to 2:00pm, and volunteers are needed to help monitor kids and assist with activities.  Please contact Omar at 270-393-3691 for more information.

 

March 30th & 31st, 2012 -- Family Enrichment Center's Run and Walk for Children

Family Enrichment Center is preparing for the16th Annual Total Fitness Connection Run and Walk for Children.  Friday, March 30th from 5:00-8:00pm is the Fazoli's Pasta Party and Expo at Total Fitness Connection.  We are looking for around 20 volunteers to help with set-up, registration and t-shirt handouts, serving guests, directing guests in the parking lot, and supervising children's activities.

On Saturday, March 31th, the day of the big race @ Basil Griffin Park, we are looking for 40 volunteers to help with course support, serving food to runners, registration, cheering runners along the race course, and race timing.

April 21st -- Area 5 Special Olympics Spring Games

Area 5 Special Olympics will be hosting its annual Spring Games competition on Saturday, April 21.  This competition will feature 120+ athletes from this area competing in track and field events.  The event will be held at BG High School from 8:30-3:30.  Approximately 100 volunteers are needed to make this event a success.  If the opportunity presents itself, Brent Belcher would be happy to speak to you or your group directly about their potential involvement.
