United Way of Southern Kentucky's "Feed the Need" Food Drive will be held February 1st – March 17th

United Way of Southern Kentucky will hold a region wide food drive aptly titled "Feed the Need" in Allen, Barren, Logan, Simpson, and Warren counties February 1st – March 17th. "Feed the Need" was created in 2008 in response to the increased need in our communities for resources. After speaking with the local food pantries that benefited from the drives in previous years, it became abundantly clear that the need for this drive continues this year.

Companies and organizations in Allen, Barren, Logan, Simpson and Warren Counties will be participating once again by holding internal food drives February 1st – March 16th. In 2011, 72 companies held internal food drives. Food drives will also be held again at all Houchens Market, Save-A-Lot, IGA, Kroger, Dollar General Market, Piggly Wiggly, Food Lion and Wal-Mart locations in all 5 counties March 16th – 17th.

All donations will benefit food banks in the county in which the donations were collected. The benefiting food banks include Barren River Area Safe Space, Community Action of Southern Kentucky, Community Relief Fund, Good Samaritan of Logan and Simpson Counties, The International Center, and The Salvation Army.

We would like to ask that your company or organization partner with United Way by

1)     Conducting a food drive within your company

2)     Asking individuals within your group to volunteer to

Help hand out flyers at store locations     ORHelp package and sort donations at your county main drop off location

If you are interested in helping to "Feed the Need" by running an internal food drive, I have attached the form that you can fill out and return to the United Way office to officially sign up. As well, I have attached some flyers that can help you get started with your food drive. More information can be found on the United Way website at www.liveunitedtoday.com.

Thank you so much for your support of our community! Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything further I can do to be of assistance.
