The Learning Center Guidelines

for students and tutors
We welcome all current WKU students to utilize TLC space (including the computer lab) for tutoring, studying, and other academically-oriented activities. Please follow the guidelines below in order to keep TLC a quiet, comfortable environment for all.

 

Sign in/Check Out

Always sign in to TLC upon your arrival -- and don't forget to sign out when you leave

No Cell Phone Tolerance

Please turn cell phones OFF (not to silent or vibrate) when entering the Academic Advising and Retention Center/The Learning Center. Coming and going to take or place phone calls is distracting to others and disrespectful to either the student or tutor, whomever is forced to wait for a call to be dealt with.

 

Food and Beverage Policy

Snacks and drinks are okay in the general TLC area, excluding the computer lab, where there is no food or drink allowed. No full meals are allowed.

 

Volume Control

Please keep your voice at a library-like level. If you find that your tutoring or study session requires a volume louder than this (for instance, language tutoring), please move your session into a private, glass-front tutor room and shut the door.

 

Distractions

MP3 players and computers may be used for music provided no one else can hear it. You may not, however, watch movies, play games, or otherwise entertain yourself with anything but academic work.

 

Don’t Do It

For the comfort of those around you, sleeping and the use of ANY tobacco products are prohibited in TLC.

Please feel free to stop at the front desk and make an appointment with one of our tutors if you would like help with a class or study skill. You can call 745-6254, email tlc@wku.edu to set up an appointment, or make one online at TutorTrac (https://tracweb.wku.edu:444/TutorTrac/).

Computer Lab

As is the case with all TLC areas, the computer lab is for academic-use only. Surfing, chatting, shopping, gaming, and accessing Facebook, MySpace, etc. are not acceptable activities in TLC’s computer lab.

Study Hall

If you are here for mandatory study hall, you are welcome to utilize the main TLC table area and the computer lab (for academic use only; use reserved mandatory study hall seating in computer lab). Please do not use the small, private tutoring rooms for study hall.

Children

TLC is for currently enrolled WKU students. Children are not allowed in TLC.
