Goals and Focus

In the spirit of pure and cutting-edge competition, the Henry Hardin CherryAwards will showcase and award advancement in visual advertising media. The
Henry Hardin Cherry Awards will promote a new standard for excellence among student designers in the advertising print, broadcast and interactive fields.

By seeking out only the most visionary, fresh, cutting-edge, and innovative work in Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana high schools, the 2003 Henry Hardin Cherry Awards hope to invigorate the high school design environment.

High School students in Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana are encouraged to participate in the competition. Winners will be announced in the fall of 2003 during the gala opening of the new Media and Technology Center on the WKU campus.

Entries to the competition must be on site by June 1, 2003. A student (or team of students) must have completed work submitted after January 1, 2002.
With three (3) categories to choose from, this competition encompasses most forms of design, advertising production and visual communication.

All forms of interactive media are eligible. MAC and PC files are acceptable. Please include instructions for opening files with submissions. Website addresses must be submitted using the specified section of the Entry Form. A separate Entry Form must be filled out for each submission. Photocopies and digital printouts of official Henry Hardin Cherry Awards Entry Forms are permitted. Optional but recommended entry materials are limited to the following information:

  • Desired end-use of submission
  • Total budget of submission
  • Goals for entry, thought behind creation and any challenges in production

On the entry form, entrants have the option of listing individuals that should be given credit for the submission. If additional credits need to be listed, please attach them to the entry form. All names associated with winning entries will be posted on the Cherry Awards website.

By submitting an entry, the entrant is verifying the material is an original work developed for or by the entrant. The entrant verifies that award credit should be given primarily to them and secondarily to those listed on the Entry Form. The teacher or student submitting the entry will be the contact throughout the course of competition and will receive all information announcements.

Eligibility

The 2003 Henry Hardin Cherry Awards Competition is open to any high-school student or student team engaged in the creation of functional graphic design, broadcast advertising / PSA or Internet / CD based interactive products and advertising.
