What is the one thing that every new student should bring to campus?
I believe that every student should bring something that reminds them of why he or she came to Western and what he or she are trying to accomplish. The object might be a picture of your family, or someone who inspired you, or even your favorite book from home. Whatever it is, place it somewhere where you will see it daily, and where it will remind you of your goals. It will help provide the needed motivation to survive the first year.
Tips you would give students about getting involved are:
Take the initiative to get involved. Do not be afraid to branch out and meet new people. Get to know the people on your dorm floor. If you see a familiar face in multiple classes, introduce yourself. Find out if your major has a student organization. You will meet people who share your same career interests and who can help you and support you as you study at WKU.
Other campus organizations in which you are involved:
ACHESA – American College of Health Executives Student Association
One piece of advice you would give an incoming freshman:
Do not forget to set aside time to study. You can and will have fun at college. There will be places to go with your friends, sports events to attend, and concerts to enjoy. However, do not forget that you are here to learn and to further your education. Studying and completing assignments is essential to being successful while here at WKU.
