Students Participate in Statewide CPA Competition
On April 21, 2011, the Kentucky Society of CPAs sponsored a collegiate competition called PEAK, which stands for Promote & Encourage Accounting in Kentucky. Six schools from across the state traveled to the Galt House in Louisville to take part in this unique event. The competition was formatted similar to the popular game show Jeopardy in that schools competed against each other in answering questions from five categories. Four of the categories were directly related to material found on the CPA exam, while the last category pertained to the KyCPA and AICPA websites.
WKU was represented by Marty Nash, Corey Ogburn, Katelyn Robbins, Jennifer Robinson, and Laura Leigh Zimmerman. The team placed fourth with an impressive show of accounting knowledge. Every member received a $25 VISA gift card and a binder of Becker CPA study materials valued at $1,000. After the event, our students had the opportunity to attend the KyCPA Spring Awards Banquet and network with all of Kentucky's finest new CPAs. The PEAK competition was very rewarding mentally and socially for the five seniors. The WKU Accounting Department is looking forward to sending another team for the 2012 competition.
