WKU Accounting Alumnus Named Board of Regents Chairman
The WKU Board of Regents has elected the following officers for 2011-12 — Freddie Higdon of Lebanon, chair; J. David Porter of Lexington, vice chair; and Dr. Melissa B. Dennison of Glasgow, secretary.
Higdon, whose term on the board ends in 2015, is a partner in Spragens & Higdon, PSC law firm in Lebanon, where he focuses in corporate, estate planning, probate, real estate and taxation law. He served as Assistant Marion County Attorney from 1992 to 1996. He is also a Certified Public Accountant, having earned that distinction in 1976. Higdon serves as Chairman of the Board of Peoples Bank in Lebanon. He was appointed in August 2008 as a Special Justice to the Kentucky Supreme Court. He is a 1972 graduate of WKU with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville in 1975.
J. David Porter
Porter, whose term on the board ends in 2014, has been with Stites & Harbison law firm since 1987 and is based in the Lexington office where his practice focuses on trusts and estate administration, estate planning and charitable giving, charitable and non-profit organizations, estate and gift taxes, probate and fiduciary law. Porter is a graduate of WKU and the University of Kentucky College of Law.
Dr. Melissa B. Dennison
Dr. Dennison, whose term on the board ends in 2016, is a pediatrician and has been with Glasgow Pediatric Associates since 1997. She is a 1980 WKU graduate and a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Dennison is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Officers were elected during the June 24, 2011 Board of Regents meeting.
