Beta Alpha Psi Officers Attend Annual Meeting
Western Kentucky University was well-represented at the 2011 Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Annual Meeting in Denver in August. Chapter co-advisor Sheri Henson accompanied Philip Cole (chapter reporter), Adam Duvall (vice president), Haley Hamilton (treasurer), and Katelyn Robbins (president) to the four-day event.
A particular highlight of the annual meeting was Project Run With It (PRWI), sponsored by a public accounting firm, Moss Adams LLP. WKU's own Philip Cole was chosen out of many applicants nationwide to participate in this wonderful three-day service event. Sixty carefully-selected BAP members, working in teams of four, tackled several real-world problems encountered by a Denver not-for-profit organization. At the conclusion of the event, the teams presented their recommendations to the grateful organization. The Department of Accounting wishes to thank Philip for his hard work on such a worthwhile undertaking.
The other WKU attendees also found several opportunities for service at the annual meeting. Katelyn, Adam, and Haley volunteered to spend their first day in Denver helping to prepare for the meeting. Sheri Henson volunteered to serve as the moderator of a student-led session on innovative career networking.
All annual meeting attendees also participated in a Community Service Day sponsored by KPMG. This year's day of service was at Project Homeless Connect, an annual service event conducted by the Mile High United Way and the City of Denver. The BAP conference attendees were paired with homeless clients in attendance and assisted them in utilizing the various services being offered that day at the Denver Convention Center. The Project Homeless Connect attendees were able to get haircuts, inquire about housing opportunities, get information about various government services, and utilize a host of other opportunities available to them at this wonderful event.
In addition to the service opportunities, our WKU students were able to attend sessions about BAP chapter operations, engage in valuable networking opportunities, and be inspired by the keynote speakers at the conference.
The Department of Accounting wishes to thank the contributors to the Accounting Excellence Association, as their generous donations made this beneficial student travel possible.
