WKU offers a BFA in Performance with a concentration in Musical Theatre. Our hope is that students will graduate in four years with solid technique in acting, singing, and dancing. You must audition to be accepted into this concentration. Auditions are held at the end of your 3rd semester.

Students in the Musical Theatre concentration have to be smart, talented, and efficient. There’s a lot to do, and you must accomplish it in four years. Because of the intensity of the program (it’s a conservatory-style curriculum), you will need to register for a full load of classes each semester (18-19 hours). It is not recommended that you have a minor in another area while completing the BFA Music Theatre program, but some students have succeeded in doing so.

WKU’s philosophy is that it takes a combination of classroom and production experience to make a well-rounded performer, so we want you to fully explore both. We produce a musical each year. Every Spring, as part of our “Bound for Broadway” series, we present a staged reading of a new, original musical theatre work. Many of our major appear in the music department’s opera, which takes place every other year. We are in the process of developing a touring Broadway show-choir, The Hilltopper Showstoppers.

In 2008, we started a new tradition: Our first New York Showcase. Click on the link below for more information.
