Dr. David Young

Assistant Professor of theatre


Dr. Young is an Associate Professor who teaches Acting I, Acting II, Period Styles Lab, Childrens Theatre and Creative Dramatics, Production of Theatre for Children, and Performing Arts Career Seminar. He also oversees the acting and childrens theatre programs and directs in the mainstage series. He holds a BFA in Theatre from Emporia State University, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Acting from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London, England and a Ph.D. in Theatre from Wayne State University in Detroit. Before teaching David worked for ten years as a professional actor and director in Chicago and the Midwest. He has numerous professional credits and has been a member of Actors Equity Association since 1983. He continues to work professionally in the area and has appeared in Harvey and Art at the Public Theatre of Kentucky. At Kentucky Repertory Theatre he has directed The Belle of Amherst, The Honey Harvest and Lying in State, and Dearly Departed. At Western his productions have included Chicago, Sweeney Todd, As Bees in Honey Drown and most recently Blood Brothers. David is also very active as a drama instructor with area youth programs. He has collaborated with Girls Inc, LifeSkills, the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice, the Capitol Arts, VSA Arts, The Center for Gifted Studies and several area elementary schools on various projects. He is married and has two children. But most importantly, at least if youre a student in the Theatre and Dance department, he usually has free food in his office. Lately its been Oats & Honey granola bars.
