Before coming to Western, Andy taught at Indiana University (Indianapolis) and at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she also worked for several years at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Andy has been directing since 1995, and her research interests are in the areas of Slavic and political theatre, all of which are reflected in her dissertation Director Evald Schorm: Subversion of Classic Theatre Texts as a Means of Political Dissent in the Czech Lands. She enjoys developing new work and has directed in a number of new play development programs, including the new works programs at the Association of Theatre in Higher Education Conference, the Mid-America Theatre Conference, the Indiana Theatre Association Conference, and the Playwrights Showcase of the Western Region. In addition, Andy is also interested in devising and physical approaches to actor training. Andy is an associate member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, a member of the Lincoln Center Director’s Lab, and a member of the Association of Theatre Movement Educators. Andy teaches Directing, Theatre History, Performance Studies, Fundamentals of Theatre and Acting.
