MEET THE FACULTY

 

Sarah Berry-Cello: received her Masters in Cello Performance from Rice University and her Bachelor of Music degree from Vanderbilt University with majors in Cello Performance and German. She performed most recently with the San Antonio Symphony, the Charleston Symphony and locally with the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra. Mrs. Berry has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Charleston and was recently a Guest Artist at Southeastern College in Florida. In 2001, her string quartet won First Prize at the MTNA National Chamber Music Competition in Washington, D.C. In addition to performing, Mrs. Berry has taught general music at Charleston Collegiate School, cello for the Shepherd Preparatory Program and substitute strings for the Charleston County School District. She is on the faculty of the Tennessee Valley Music Festival and has spent her summers performing at the Spoleto Festival USA, the National Orchestral Institute, Brevard Music Center, and the Meadowmount School for Strings. She teaches pre-college and college cello lessons, public school strings classes, collegiate classes and performs as Principal Cellist with the Bowling Green Western Symphony Orchestra.

Kimbery Barnes-Violin: Ms. Barnes earned her Masters degree in Violin from Belmont University in Nashville, TN and her Bachelor of Music degree from Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory in Berea, OH. She is currently an adjunct instructor of Celtic fiddle at Belmont University, travels throughout the country playing with two different Celtic bands, and maintains a private violin studio at Hermitage Hills Arts Academy. Since its inception in 2004, Ms. Barnes has been both a counselor and faculty member of the String Crossings Camp at Belmont University. She has also been an instructor at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University and its summer International Fiddle Camp, and Belmont Academy. She has participated in Blas 2003: International Summer School for Irish Traditional Music and Dance (Limerick, Ireland), Musique de Chambre (Vallouise, France), and the Willie Clancy Summer School (Miltown Malbay, Ireland). She has performed with the Belmont Graduate String Quartet, Belmont Symphony Orchestra and Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory Bach Festival Chamber Orchestra. Other artists that Ms. Barnes has performed with include the Chieftans, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Seamus Connolly, Crystal Plohman, Bill Verdier, Goldylocks, Alan Barnes, The Bowling Green Western Symphony Orchestra, the Blair Band, and Father, Son, and Friends.

Dr. Anna Cromwell-Violin,Viola: Dr. Cromwell has degrees from Vanderbilt University and the University of Minnesota. She is a registered Suzuki teacher (books 1-10), and has served on the faculties of Minnesota State University in Mankato, Bravo! Summer String and Keyboard Institute in Minneapolis, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Blue Lake, Michigan, and as a guest clinician at Fiddler's Fair in Houston, Texas. She has just returned from Bermuda where, as a member of the Calhoun Duo, she performed, taught and gave masterclasses. She will be teaching university violin lessons, university classes, and pre-college
violin/viola lessons.

Patrick O'Rourke -Double Bass: A native of Bowling Green, KY, Patrick O'Rourke has recently accepted the position of Orchestra Director for the Bowling Green Independent School District. Prior to accepting the position in Bowling Green, Mr. O’Rourke taught orchestra in Louisville, KY and New Albany, IN. In addition to his work as a public school string educator, Mr. O’Rourke has served as music director of the Floyd County Youth Symphony and taught applied bass in the Preparatory Department at the University of Louisville. Mr. O’Rourke also maintains an active playing career and is at home in jazz, classical, bluegrass, and Latin styles.
