Finding Grants and Foundation Information

The Helm-Cravens Library has a great deal of grant information. The library is a Foundation Center Cooperating Collection. The Foundation Center is an independent national service organization established by foundations to provide an authoritative source of information on foundation and corporate giving. Foundation Center Cooperating Collections provide a core collection of Foundation Center publications and a variety of supplementary materials and services in areas useful to grantseekers. WKU's Cooperating Collection has the Foundation Directory Online available for public use. The Foundation Center Website at www.fdncenter.org/ also has a fair amount of materials available for free.

Here is a listing of Grant Information shelved at Helm Reference Center, including the Foundation Center Core Collection for Cooperating Collections.   The Federal Register is a daily listing of new and proposed regulations and programs, including new and proposed grant programs from the Federal government.

The Foundation Center website contains Foundation Finder, which has information on foundations; SearchZone, which allows researchers to search the Web sites of more than 1,000 U.S. grantmakers; and 990-PF tax forms. The Foundation Center also has learning information and tutorials material on writing grant proposals; Literature of the Non-Profit Sector, which indexes and abstracts articles about non-profits; and the Philanthropy News Digest. Also contains links to Coorperating Collections such as the Helm-Cravens Library.

iconGuideStar: The National Database of Nonprofit Organizations

 
Guidestar contains a search engine for funders and grantees. Guidestar also includes a resource that many people don't think about: the 990-PF tax forms. All foundations are required to file a tax form which contains a lot of information, including telling exactly which projects they have funded the year and how much they gave. This information allows you to determine types of recipients and amounts given so that you can write a better proposal.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy is a newspaper for the non-profit world. Created by the publishers of the Chronicle of Higher Education, the Chronicle of Philanthropy provides news, commentary, analysis, and job openings for the non-profit sector. The Web site offers the complete contents of the latest issue, an archive of past issues and articles published since October 1997, and two issues' worth of the most recent grant listings -- all fully searchable.
iconLiterature of the Non-Profit Sector
Literature of the Non-Profit Sector is a searchable database of the literature of philanthropy which is updated daily. It incorporates the unique contents of the Foundation Center's five libraries and contains more than 22,615 full bibliographic citations, of which more than 15,140 have descriptive abstracts. The database includes the full text of selected articles from Grassroots Fundraising Journal, NonProfit Times, Nonprofit Quarterly, Contributions, and Stanford Social Innovation Review.
