Planning, Scanning, and the “Russian
Doll” Effect: Making the Most of Your Digital Assets
Jim Bradley, Ball State University
Abstract: In the rush for digital content,
we must resist the urge to create electronic artifacts without carefully considering
the nature of the objects themselves, identifying the initial target audience(s),
planning for how the objects will primarily be used, and anticipating how these
same artifacts are capable of being repurposed and/or repackaged in a variety
of different environments for diverse user types. Drawing examples from Ball
State University’s Digital Media Repository (http://libx.bsu.edu), Mr.
Bradley will discuss planning digitization projects that yield extremely flexible
digital objects in terms of how, where, and why they are utilized.
