Adapting & Evolving: Mapping New Routes
Kate Seago and Mary Beth Thomson, University
of Kentucky
Abstract:
Digital content impacts a libraries’ core mission and its most basic functions
of access, acquisitions, collection management, and preservation. As digital
content continues to drive our work flows towards new routes, libraries of all
shapes and sizes are discussing the impact on work flows and staffing levels
and expertise. Library associations and professional organizations provide avenues
for these discussions as does our professional literature. Mary Beth Thomson
will provide an overview of the current discussions and changes taking place
within libraries due to increases in digital content. In addition, Kate Seago
will provide a specific example by describing how over the past two years work
flows at the University of Kentucky were re-designed and staff positions evolved
as a direct result of the increase in digital content collections.
