A Kind of Nobility: The Kentucky
Orphan Brigade The exhibit, A Kind of Nobility: The Kentucky Orphan Brigade,
is a unique assembly of artifacts, some of which have never previously
been on public display. It includes uniforms, flags, firearms, documents,
books, photographs, and personal memorabilia that illustrate the experiences
of the men of the First Kentucky Brigade. Upon leaving leaving Bowling
Green in February 1862, most of its members did not to return to their
home state until the end of the Civil War. Built around the traveling
exhibit organized by the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, Virginia,
the Kentucky Museum exhibit is supplemented with artifacts lent by the
Kentucky Building, the Kentucky Historical Society/Military Museum, the
Filson Club Historical Society, the Jacob Hiestand House, the Orphan Brigade
Kinfolk Association and several private collectors.
