The County School Board built the gymnasium in 1940. The shop, located in the basement, contained metal and wood working machines, a brick forge and an oxyy-acetylene torch .

Alvaton also had a cannery, built in 1943, with 1 steam-heated kettle, 2 steam-heated pressure cookers and several work tables.

 

Alvaton

By 1932-33 Alvaton offered a two-year course of study in high school work. In 1936 Boyce and Greenhill consolidated with Alvaton to form a new school at Alvaton.


Alvaton High School (1936)

The county built the new Alvaton School in 1936 for students grades 1-12. In addition its first floor classrooms and principal's office, classrooms and a domestic science room were located in the basement.

The domestic science room contained a number of wooden tables and cabinets, 5 sewing machines, 1 electric iron, 5 domestice type kerosene fuel cooking stoves, and an electric refrigerator. A corn popper, located in the hallway, 0perated on kerosene.
