Sister City Exchange

Richardsville Elementary in Kentucky has participated in an art exchange with Meiho Elementary in Kawanishi, Japan. Louise Halsey, artist-in-residence at Richardsville Elementary, helped to prepare the artwork which included abstract designs on paper, weavings, and stick puppets. Some of the pictures portray daily life in Richardsville. The idea for the puppets came from puppets made in India. Each was colored elaborately, named, and given personality traits like those of the artists.

The artwork received Meiho Elementary fascinated the Richardsville students. The works gave them a clear sense of daily life in Kawanishi, from the students' perspectives with lots of personal details and colorful comments. Below are some of the works exchanged by the two schools.
