New York: a city searching for hope

Even as New Yorkers were just beginning to dig their way out of the thick layer of gray-brown dust that coated their city after the collapse of the World Trade Center, a new color scheme began to emerge: red, white, and blue. Flags of all sizes popped up at Ground Zero, spread all over Manhattan and across the nation as patriotism enjoyed its greatest revival in over 50 years.
