Jane (Morton) Norton was born in Louisville, Kentucky November 15, 1908 daughter of Dr. David Cummings and Mary Harris (Ballard) Morton. Jane attended Ballard School and Kentucky Home in Louisville and Oldfields School in Maryland. In 1928 she married George Norton III founder of WAVE radio station in Louisville. During WWII Jane served as vice-president of the company while her husband was in the military. In 1948 WAVE-TV became first television station in Kentucky. After the deaths of her husband and son in the mid-1960s, she succeeded her son as president of the company. As businesswoman, civic leader, philanthropist, patron of the arts and artist herself, Norton made a lasting contribution to the community of Louisville and Jefferson County. Norton studied art at the New York Art Students League, the Art Center in Louisville and in Paris for a year. Working from a studio adjacent to her home, her paintings have been exhibited regionally and in New York. Jane Morton Norton died August 29, 1988 at age 79 in Massachusetts.
