Lena (Meyler) McKee was born in Shepherdsville, Kentucky June 7, 1874 to Romanza J. and Josephine (Swearingen) Meyler. She attended Bowling Green's Potter College in 1894 as a special student in art studying under Beulah Strong who illustrated Eliza Calvert Hall's Aunt Jane of Kentucky. By 1900 McKee's family had moved from Bullitt County to Bowling Green. At age 25, Lena was listed in the census as "artist". Lena McKee lived and worked in Bowling Green until her death on December 4, 1955 at age 81.
