Frances (Herrick) Fowler was born June 1864 in Bowling Green, Kentucky daughter of F.C. and Harriett (Reese) Herrick. During her childhood, the Herricks moved to Tennessee where Frances attended boarding school in Clarksville. She later studied at Vanderbilt University. After marrying Columbia, Tennessee judge Edward Stacey Fowler in 1895, she lived with her husband in the western United States until his death in 1908. Fowler returned to Bowling Green and continued her studies under Nashville artist Ella Sophonisba Hergesheimer. She also managed a gift shop. She traveled extensively, spending much of her time in England and Italy where she studied art. Fowler primarily painted still lifes and landscapes. Frances Fowler died in Bowling Green June 5, 1948.
